Being a mentor is a satisfing and important role in today's world. Not only will you be helping students succeed in the RV Service Technician career but you will be contributing to customer satifaction, which assures the RV Industry will continue to provide interesting and rewarding livelyhoods for everyone involved.
Mentoring students enrolled in the RVST Certification Preparation Training Course entails serving as a trusted counselor and teacher. Your job is to encourage and motivate students to complete the training course curriculum, work with them to complete the required sign-off sheets and help establish goals and work habits resulting in the successful completion of the Recreation Vehicle Certification Board test.
It is recommended that mentors hold a Master Certified or Certified Service Technician Certificate. It is also desirable for mentors be employed at or near the same facility as the student, although long distance mentoring can be accommodated if this is not possible.
Duties include frequent discussion with the student regarding his participation and performance in the program. Mentors are encouraged to participate in the Student Discussion Forums and periodically check the students progress as compared to the suggested time-line established at the beginning of the course. Mentors will be notified via email if a student falls significantly behind the suggested learning pace.
Should difficulties arise with a student’s performance, mentors will attempt to intervene and resolve the problem. If a solution is not apparent, the mentor will contact the RVIA Director of Education and formulate an action plan for the student.
Mentoring does not require keeping attendance or progress reports for your students, the computer program will fulfill this function.
Mentors will be granted access to RVST.ORG E-learning Certification Training Course, Discussion Forum and Archive. Mentors will also receive the gratitude and admiration of students who they help to reach the goals of Certification and career advancement.
